Our Mission

At Tahoe Truckee Advanced Psychiatric Nursing, we take a whole-person perspective of mental health care. Our approach is centered on providing compassionate, competent, high-quality care that meets the unique needs of each individual client. Our team of doctorate trained psychiatric nurse practitioners believes in working collaboratively with our clients to develop treatment plans that focus on their symptoms, goals, and overall well-being. We offer a variety of expert services, including medication management, psychotherapy, and holistic treatments to help our clients live their best life.

TTAPN is comitted to the safe and supported provision of cutting edge treatments for mental wellness.  Spravato (esketamine) is an evidence-based intervention for treatment-resistant depression with emerging data supporting its efficacy for an array of mental health issues. Our approach is tailored to each individual, ensuring personalized care and maximum results.

Clinical Staff

Doctor Katina Varzos is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who offers psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. Dr. Varzos earned a Bachelor of Science degree at Cornell University and a Master’s in Nursing from Yale University. Her initial clinical specialty was in midwifery and women’s health. She later obtained post-master’s training in psychiatric-mental health care. She is board certified by both the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing and the American College of Nurse Midwives. Additionally, Dr. Varzos has earned a Doctorate in Nursing practice, the highest level of education and training in her field. Dr. Varzos has extensive experience working with severe, persistent mental illness in home-based and community health settings. Additionally, she has operated a private practice with in-home services specializing in perinatal mental health. Dr. Varzos developed a psychiatric medication management service for college students at Wesleyan University. She has also worked intensively with families, teens, and young adults struggling with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. Dr. Varzos helped to launch a program specifically geared towards the needs of women with substance use and mental health issues and expanded services for young men and LGBTQ+ youth in a residential treatment center setting. Taking a holistic and collaborative approach to care, Dr. Varzos combines evidence-based treatment modalities and ongoing education to empower clients in their path towards recovery.

Clinical Staff

Doctor Jonathan Lowe is a psychiatric nurse practitioner who offers psychiatric evaluation, diagnosis, and medication management. Dr. Lowe earned a Master’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Pennsylvania. He is board certified by  the American Nurses Credentialing Center in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing across the lifespan. Additionally, Dr. Lowe has earned a Doctorate in Nursing practice, the highest level of education and training in his field. Dr. Lowe has a varied wealth of experiences including working with young adults with developmental delays in independent living settings, treating severe persistent mental illness in home-based, community health, and prison settings. Dr. Lowe was the clinical director and lead psychiatric provider in an intensive treatment center serving families, teens, and young adults with severe substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health issues. There, he oversaw tremendous growth of the program and initiated programming for specialized service lines. Presently, he treats adults in a primary-care integrated outpatient setting at Tahoe Forest Hospital. He started the region's first Spravato program, ensuring community access to advances in psychiatric treatment options. Dr. Lowe will focus on continuing to offer quality care in a smaller private practice setting during evening hours to accommodate working adults.
